The Place of Shade


The Place of Shade is a collaborative artistic research inquiry into the contemporary wake of the Norwegian presence in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Norwegian immigrants began operating within the British colonial framework in KwaZulu Natal around 1840. This exposition contains extracts from Ray Franz's literary work based upon the research conducted for The Place of Shade. The exposition was published in the Nordic Journal of Artistic Research, Vis Issue 11, 'Play, Come What May', on 2 April 2024.
